Benoit Bruneau, PI
Benoit is Associate Director of the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease, and Professor of Pediatrics at UCSF. Follow on twitter at @benoitbruneau
Swetansu Hota, Postdoc
Irfan Kathiriya, UCSF Anaesthesia Fellow
Transcription factor (TF) haploinsufficiency is a common cause of congenital diseases, but the mechanisms are not known. I am studying how the loss of one copy of a TF gene, known as TBX5, causes congenital heart disease (CHD) in humans and mice. My research has been inspired and informed by my clinical care of patients with CHDs.
Patrick Devine, UCSF Pathology Fellow
Elphege Nora, Postdoc
After completing my PhD on X-chromosome inactivation at the Curie Institute in Paris, France, I joined the Bruneau lab to study mechanisms of long-range transcriptional regulation in the context of cardiac cell differentiation. When not in the lab one can find me struggling with my bike on San Francisco’s hills and enjoying the city life.
Matt George, UCSF DSCB Student
Matt is currently a PhD candidate in the Developmental and Stem Cell Biology program at UCSF. Originally from Wisconsin, Matt earned his BS in Biochemistry from UW-Madison, where he used a novel Serum Response Factor enhancer to develop stem cell-based heart therapies in Dr. Tim Kamp's laboratory. After graduation Matt joined Dr. James Thomson's iPSC company Cellular Dynamics International and developed the iCell Neuron and iCell dopaNeuron products. Now in Dr. Bruneau's laboratory at the Gladstone Institutes, Matt is most interested in the molecular and epigenetic mechanisms underlying early cell lineage decisions in the heart. Furthermore, his thesis work is focused on understanding the roles long noncoding RNAs play in these processes. In his free time, Matt enjoys cheering on the Wisconsin Badgers football and basketball teams with his wife Paige.
Elana Lewis, Administrative Assistant
Administrative assistant to Dr. Bruneau and his lab since 2009. Project
coordinator, event planner and committee leader.
Steven Cincotta, Graduate Student
I am currently a graduate student in the Developmental and Stem Cell Biology Program at UCSF. I earned my bachelor's degree in biochemistry and molecular biology, as well as my master's degree in biotechnology from Boston University. After graduating from BU, I moved to San Francisco and joined the lab of Benoit Bruneau where I am planning to study the effects of transcription factor heterozygosity on transcriptional regulation in the context of cardiac development and differentiation
Bayardo Garay, UCSF Research Specialist
Abby Nagle, Research Associate and Lab Manager
I graduated from UC Berkeley with a bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cell Biology in May 2016. Upon graduation I joined the Bruneau Lab to learn more about cardiac development and stem cell biology. I am currently investigating the epigenetics of human cardiac differentiation, as well as handling the safety and organizational needs of the lab.
Vasumathi "Vasu" Kameswaran, Postdoc
Darion Miguel Perez, Research Associate
What I love the most about SF is its people and how diverse it is. In a unique city such as this, I found myself easily seduced by the culture, and especially the food. I quickly felt at home in SF after leaving Cuba.
Gladstone is a terrific place to work because it is representative of the quality of the people that you find here in San Francisco. As an immigrant, I feel very comfortable working at Gladstone where almost every other person comes from a different corner of the world.
I am currently assisting several investigators with the management of their mouse colonies.
